CAPE TOWN'S WATER CRISIS
Residents of Cape Town will probably not see Day Zero this year if they continue to use 50 litres of water a day, but that puts the next Day Zero target in the middle of next summer.
Deputy mayor of Cape Town Ian Neilson said that the current Day Zero projection which is based on dam levels was in mid July, placing it in the middle of the rainy season in Cape Town. Rainfall patterns over the past two years had become extremely unpredictably and models assumed 2017's well below average rainfall as the "new normal" he said.
Students and lecturers alike will now need to use 50% less water everyday, across all campuses at the University of Cape Town.
The city's water consumption has dropped from an average of 1200 million litres a day in 2015 to 500 litres a day this year, a drop Neilson ascribed to water management and saving efforts by residents and industries.
Cape Town residents are really struggling in terms of water supply, maybe the donation of water from other provinces can minimize the effects.

Shame I hope the water problems can be resolved quickly. I cannot imagine how life is like when you have a limited supply of
ReplyDeleteI think that cape town engineers must come up with a plan and try to invert a water purifying machine and extract sea water and purify it if that is even possible.
ReplyDeleteLiving without water is a serious problem as we all know water is a neccesity. I wish all the other provices have learnt something on what happent in Wastern Cape and know the importance of saving water. We should all remember that every drop counts.

ReplyDeleteWater crisis is a serious problem that require massive attention from authorities in the Department of Water and Sanitation to come up with solutions quicker especially since the crisis has affected the whole city
